DC Snipers - Straight Razor
Damn my allegiance to pop-punk in high school. If I didn’t have in my head in the sand for four years, I would have been able to experience this amazing North Jersey punk band in all of their glory. Their 2006 debut Missile Sunset is a great, dirty piece of work. Drawing influence from proto-punk and combining it with their own take on the “New Jersey sound” they create punk music that is undeniably organic, but it’s also aggressively catchy and absolutely danceable. Unfortunately DC Snipers are broken up now, but you can hear Dan McGee tear it up in his North Carolina based Spider Bags.
Cloud Nothings - No Future/No Past
Holy lord has this band grown. Last year’s self-titled was full of poppy punk songs and only a handful of slow songs; this song crawls and scratches at your ears. Think Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana melded together in a dark back alley. The raw, emotional buildup heard in the vocals is titillating. I cannot wait to hear more from of this; it is one of the most welcomely accepted maturations of a band I have experienced, since Trophy Scars went bluesy.
EMA - Angelo
New EMA! My love for EMA is unabashed, so I was excited to hear the b-side of her “Marked” single that’s just been released. It keeps that layered noise-folk vibe that she completely owns and features a verse from Oakland, CA rapper Mz’Gorjis in a surprising twist. The single for “Marked” will be released on November 21.
Metallica and Lou Reed collaborated; it’s called Lulu. I’m sure you know this by now. The record was finally released and let me tell you it is bad. It’s the worst piece of shit I have heard in some time, but I’m not here to complain about how put together the sound is or how boring it is; I’m hear to call out the reviews.
Allmusic, Pitchfork, and Tiny Mix Tapes all reviewed the album. What would you expect from a cynical site like Pitchfork for a project like this? Most certainly a 0. What would you expect from a site like Tiny Mix Tapes, who prides itself on finding the most left-field of music enjoyable? Artistically a 0. Allmusic is pretty fair about everything and gives it all a shot, so I didn’t expect a 0, but I wanted a 1. I just don’t understand how you can even give the tiniest of merit to what seems like such a cash grab; it’s a Warner Brothers’ release, god dammit.
This is my call to arm: don’t buy, chart or listen to this record. I don’t even think it has an audience, except for the reviewers.

Just a quick update for those who wanted to listen to this year’s WQAQ Fright Night. As you know there has been a massive amount of snow. As a result it has been moved to Sunday at 8pm. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Band of Skulls: The Devil Takes Care of His Own
Band of Skulls is an amazing band with an awesome raw heavy rock sound. Similar to the white stripes and the black keys. They are currently on tour over seas with the black keys. Check out their album Baby Darling Doll Face Honey, it is one of my favorite albums of all time. This song is a new song from hopefully a new album soon!!

Trash Talk - Burn Alive
I’m so excited that Trash Talk killed it with their newest EP Awake. With five songs clocking in around eight and a half minutes, Trash Talk takes the sound they solidified on last year’s Eyes and Nines and improves it; making it aggressive, violent, and uniquely catchy. “Burn Alive” cements why Trash Talk is doing the whole 80’s revivalist hardcore thing better than pretty much anyone else (although Ceremony kills it too): the track is a suicidal anthem that makes you want to burn down a police station and then piss on the ashes that lie in your wake. Get ready to get violent.
