Titus Andronicus - Upon Viewing Oregon’s Landscape With The Flood of Detritus
Hey all! Your FESTAPALOOZA headliner’s released a new single a few weeks back, and it’s a killer. Judging from this song and their new ones they played live, Titus Andronicus is delving into some weird experimental punk trip. I couldn’t be more excited. Check it out, and then see them on APRIL 20th at FESTAPALOOZA.
FESTAPALOOZA: Quinnipiac University’s First Music Festival
featuring:
Titus Andronicus
Bomb the Music Industry
The Front Bottoms
The Guru
Great Caesar
The Midnighters
…and Hamden’s local food vendors!
The event is on April 20th in Quinnipiac’s Burt Kahn Court, starting at 5:30, show at 6:15. Raffles every hour. Tickets JUST FIVE BUX (free for Quinnipiac students)
It’s our second week back from spring break, and WQAQ couldn’t be more ready for the remainder of the spring semester! In addition to our upcoming spring concert on April 20 featuring Titus Andronicus, we’re excited to be a part of Quinnipiac’s 3rd annual Big Event.
The Big Event started in 1982 at Texas A&M University as a way for college students to give back to their surrounding communities. It became a Quinnipiac tradition in spring 2010. Students are divided into teams and sent to various locations, ranging from food banks to local schools to public parks and everything in-between, and complete one day of service.
Last year WQAQ had a team of 20 and we spent the day cleaning up Edgarton Park in New Haven. We gave back and had a ton of fun in the process! If you’re a student at QU and weren’t able to sign up this year, I highly recommend being part of a team next spring!

HEY GUYS. Titus Andronicus (our headliner for FESTAPALOOZA on 4/20) has just released a free download for their mixtape featuring covers, first recordings, demos, and live performances. And again, IT’S FREE. Take a listen!
Hey guys,
We’re having some technical difficulties with the stream and the encoding software. We’re working as hard as we can to get everything all fixed up so you can keep tuning in. Until then, tune your radio dial to 98.1 fm in the Hamden/Wallingford area. We apologize for the inconvenience!
Baby Grand - Summer
Late (late, late) post. Baby Grand is a band from Connecticut. I met their guitarist at a party once. They rule. Listen to this and party with your friends; it’s the perfect soundtrack.
The Men - Open Your Heart
Open Your Heart; 2012
Oh man. The nice weather is bringing some great music with it. Try to not become a fan of The Men’s excellent album, Open Your Heart, after checking out the titular track.
Thank you to everyone who came out to Battle of the Bands last night! Between the rock bands, solo acoustic artists, rap artists, and even a performance during intermission by Quinnipiac’s new a cappella group, there was really something for everyone to enjoy. Congrats to all the winners, including The Midnighters who will be opening for our Spring Concert on April 20th. Woo Hü!
For those of you who weren’t able to make it out, don’t forget to Snag Your Swag! Stop by the station (SC203) to pimp out your eyes with approximately the raddest eyewear in the western hemisphere. You’ll never want to stop rocking them. Ever. Even during cloudy Sundays spent studying for midterms in your apartment.

Happy weekend, everyone!

Why? - By Torpedo or Crohn’s
Why?’s record Alopecia seems to be a staple on my iPod; something I throw on when I don’t know what else to listen to. The penultimate track to the album is the downtrodden, defeated “By Torpedo or Chron’s.” Yoni Wolf is uncompromisingly personal, and the song benefits greatly from that. It’s not self-pitying ever, just observant.
Tonight WQAQ hosted its first February Shindig! We might not have been allowed to dance, but we WERE allowed to have fun, get pumped for this year’s Battle of the Bands, and eat free food courtesy of Primo’s Pizza and Griff’s Chicken Shack, both located in Hamden.
We also offered people the chance to win a pair of tickets to Islands (2/26), Matt Pryor of The Get Up Kids w/ the Front Bottoms (2/28), Jane’s Addiction (3/7), Ben Kweller (3/20), AND …drumroll… SAY ANYTHING/KEVIN DEVINE on April 9th.
The drawing for Say Anything/Kevin Devine will be held on March 3rd at Battle of the Bands! If you’re interested in entering to win, stop by the station before next Friday.
All other winners will be announced tomorrow at NOON on 98.1FM or wqaq.com! Many thanks to everyone who came out tonight!

Cheap Girls - Ruby
Cheap Girls’ new record Giant Orange is out today on Rise Records! I’m a huge fan of this band; I love their grungy, fuzzy sound. It’s like if Dinosaur Jr. drank as much as they smoked weed. Their new record rules too, so definitely check it out. They’ll be playing in New Haven on March 8th with the Sidekicks, New Years Revolution, and Dagwood so check that out too!
