WQAQ is proud to announce the 2010 Music for Meals benefit concert! Every year we host a charity event at The Space in Hamden, CT where we get a few bands, charge $5 or FREE admission with two canned goods, and donate all the food and money to a local food kitchen. Past headliners include Nightmare of You, Patent Pending, and Bottle Up & Go, and we could not be more excited to announce this year’s lineup!
Headlining is Pitchfork’s Best New Music recipients Cymbals Eat Guitars, whose debut record “Why There Are Mountains” combines all the best elements of 90s alt-rockers like Built to Spill and Archers of Loaf while melting it into something wholly and unforgettably new.
Opening the show is the Boston-based Art Decade, who have been good friends of the station over the past year. They did an in-studio performance last February with a string quartet, and have spent the last few months in a studio in North Carolina recording their debut full-length, “Western Sunrise.” Singer/guitarist Ben Talmi’s also kept busy arranging and conducting strings for the new Manchester Orchestra record. Chances are they’ll be playing lots of new stuff, which, if you’ve heard their previous EP, “Royalty,” you should be extremely excited for.
Rounding out the lineup is WQAQ’s own Great Caesar, featuring ex-Music Director and current General Manager Mike Farrell, who feels a bit awkward writing this and referring to himself in the third person. If you dig rock music with big band horn sensibilities, you’ll definitely find something to love. Expect some new material as well from a (possibly) forthcoming EP or record of some sort!
So yeah, check this out. November 6th. You won’t be disappointed. And even if you are, for free, who cares? You might as well still come!
